Meanwhile, several more seventh-circle wizards got word and left the nearby banquet, wine glasses in hand, making their way to the dining room.
They had originally intended to see Jie Ming, the newly promoted sixth-circle wizard currently riding a wave of attention.
However, the moment they rounded the corridor and saw the scene inside, they all stopped short.
Because Savien was speaking while waving his hand to unfold a new spatial model, and the dining room now held more than a dozen light screens. With that focused expression on his face, there was no doubt he was already completely immersed in research.
Barging over to interrupt at a time like this... was no different from asking for death!
So, just like the seventh-circle wizards before them, they smoothly turned around and retreated, looking dejected.
“Never mind,” one wizard suggested. “We can wait until Lord Savien leaves.”
Someone beside him immediately shook his head. “Looking at those two, do you really think he’ll be leaving tonight?”
Recalling the scene, that seventh-circle wizard could only shake his head helplessly.
One of them gently swirled his glass and smiled meaningfully. “From today on, I’m afraid no one will treat Jie Ming as an ordinary newly promoted sixth-circle wizard.”
Another added, “Right. As long as he doesn’t make a mistake, there will be a place for him in the Space School.” The others nodded in unison.
“I heard someone couldn’t wait and probed this Wizard Jie Ming when he arrived?” One of the seventh-circle wizards suddenly laughed. Hearing this, the others couldn’t help chuckling quietly.
“That is truly a sad story. I hope that wizard won’t be sacrificed by his own family...”
“To dare to probe when he knew nothing of the specifics—keeping such a fool around is pointless. Using him as a sacrificial offering to smooth over relations is just putting waste to good use.”
Everyone present knew that being recognized by Savien, a top researcher of the Space School, meant that after tonight, Jie Ming’s status would undergo an earth-shaking transformation.
As they said, if that family acted decisively, the wizard who had tried to probe might really be used as a “sacrifice.” This wasn’t merely fear of Jie Ming’s connections; it was a more realistic calculation: being recognized by Savien meant that Jie Ming’s talent was definitely enough to cultivate to the level of an eighth-circle wizard.
Sacrificing one junior member of the family to dissolve a future top-tier eighth-circle wizard’s grudge was a pretty good deal.
Soon, a month passed in the blink of an eye.
For the other attending wizards, that month had mostly been about familiarizing themselves with the environment, visiting old friends, and building connections for the upcoming Academic Symposium.
For Jie Ming, however, it was an entire month of high-intensity research life.
During that month, Jie Ming hardly ever returned to the residence arranged for him, because he spent almost all his time living directly in Savien’s laboratory. Their research could only be called insane.
Before this, Jie Ming had always thought that even the craziest research maniac could only work twenty-four hours a day.
But Savien told him that this idea was simply too naive!
The Timeflow Chamber, which Jie Ming had been longing for ever since using it in the Triangle Plane, was one of the few buildings that could help accelerate a wizard’s research (Chapter 306).
And that thing... was a specialty of the Void Architecture Academy.
Savien waved his hand and had one sent over directly. It even looked more advanced than the one used in the Triangle Plane back then. Fortunately, Savien still had a bit of humanity left in him and didn’t set the Timeflow Chamber’s time acceleration to maximum.
But even so, Jie Ming had to work more than two hundred hours every single day that month!
The two of them continuously deduced and revised the Self-Stabilizing Field Regulation Protocol. One after another, theories that had already been mature enough were dismantled and reassembled in their hands, turning into new technologies.
Sometimes, a single new inspiration would immediately overturn several days’ worth of results.
As their exchange continued to deepen, Jie Ming truly realized how terrifying Savien, the titan of the Space School, really was.
Before this, Clark had been the smartest person Jie Ming had ever met, someone able to independently create an entirely new system.
And in Savien, he saw wisdom that went a step further.
Savien could indeed create new systems as well, but compared with his creative ability, what was even more terrifying was his knowledge reserve. Savien was like an immense, boundless ocean of knowledge. Almost any question in the spatial domain, he could instantly conjure dozens of solutions and the pros and cons behind them.
Then, based on the existing situation, he could quickly find the development direction best suited to the current project.
Jie Ming couldn’t count how many times he had sighed at the other’s nearly terrifying knowledge reserve.
Jie Ming had been able to keep discussing with this big shot for so long all because of his split attention: deep in his consciousness, he searched for relevant data and information through the Great Dao Book Pavilion, while at the same time converting that information into wizard-world knowledge and outputting it.
And no matter how difficult the knowledge Jie Ming output, Savien could rapidly understand it, sort it out, quickly convert it into his own knowledge reserve, and continue to feed it back.
In the later stages, Jie Ming could only rely on the Entropy Brain Talent evolved from his body-tempering method to passively organize the enormous amount of knowledge, ensuring his brain didn’t crash.
At the same time, however, Jie Ming’s improvement was also extraordinarily significant.
The biggest gain was the increase in his mastery over the Space Law.
If one hundred percent law mastery was taken as the baseline of one, then Jie Ming’s Space Law had risen above twenty in the past month—far exceeding his previous highest, the Time Law, and leaving it in the dust.
Of course, correspondingly, Savien was likewise shocked again and again by Jie Ming’s direction of understanding across various bodies of knowledge.
Many spatial problems that had troubled him for centuries could be easily solved by Jie Ming, perhaps merely by changing the angle of observation.
So in Savien’s view, although the young wizard Jie Ming was a little slow in reaction, the two had become more and more in sync over the month. Often, no sooner had one put forward an idea than the other had already continued the deduction along that train of thought.
In just one month, the technology version that the two had perfected together had already far exceeded the level of the original design.
At last, the day of the Academic Symposium’s official opening arrived.
Jie Ming was finally released from those hellish days of research.
According to convention, the first day of the official opening wouldn’t directly start the formal meetings. Instead, a welcome reception would be held in the evening. This was an informal social opener and the most relaxed part of the entire symposium.
Its main purpose was simply for everyone to get to know each other, exchange name cards, and chat about recent research directions.
